Meilin brought her hands out in front of her for balance, and kicked hard into the air. When she landed, she was ready for a punch to her imaginary opponents face and another kick to his side. When she was done with the small drill, she put out her arms again to be ready for the next, even though she was done with her practice for the day. That was, until her phone beeped. Sending her nearly jumping to find it on the small picnic table of her backyard.
As it turned out, it was a text. Not just any text, it was a text from Rollan. Her...well, what exactly were they? No one really knew for sure. Officially, they were dating. But not seriously at this point. Even thought they both really loved each other. He had kissed her after she beat this jerk in her Marshal Arts tournament, and they had barely separated since.
You know what I thought when I first saw you at the bus stop on the first day of junior high?
Smiling, Meilin rolled her eyes.

After sending the text, she stood up and walked inside. She greeted her Grandpa and Grandma in the Chinese that they spoke in their home. A year ago, her father passed in a car crash on the way home from work and her mother died when she was born. So her grandparents came to America to be her guardians. They also started teaching her what she knew about Karate. Then she went to her room to change.
No sooner after that did she get a reply message back from Rollan.
I thought 'Oh no, I'm screwed. I think I just feel in love'.
So, this actually has a little of my Modern AU head canon about Meilin. Her father died in a car ascendant so her grandparents came from China to take care of her. And teach her Karate/ Marshal Arts. And she beats Shane in a tournament(yes, the jerk was Shane XD).
